That's right, I'm in Savannah. Jealous?

I would be if I were you. I am in Savannah and I love it! I got in around 2 PM and haven't really done anything but check my email and watch a little TV. As I mentioned in my previous post, I plan on heading up to Charleston, SC in the morning to sight see and take a tour of Fort Sumter. I'm totally excited about that!

So, I got a new phone at the end of December, the Verizon Wireless XV6700 to be exact. Ever since then, I've been learning more and more about what you can do with Windows Mobile 5 and I just love this stupid phone! Not only does it suite my business needs, but it suites my personal needs too! It can do virtually anything a regular computer can do, including play movies! I can literally be sitting on an airplane watching movies on my CELL PHONE!!! And, the screen is about twice the size of my iPod screen, so it's even better! The only compromise is having to copy the actual file over which takes FOREVER, and the amount of storage is greatly lacking compared to an iPod. I've only got a 1GIG MiniSD card in it right now, so that would limit my space to about one movie.

But another cool thing is the full feature web browser, and for some reason, I am just so freaking proud of the customized home page I made for the phone. It was a bit tricky getting this to work though. After I actually made the page, I had to copy the files to the phone. Well, if you've ever done any type of web development, it works the same way when you have to copy the files up to any server. The problem I ran into, however, was that the phone had all of the files that I needed to replace listed as system files (hehe, they don't want you tweaking their customized home page) and it wouldn't let me replace them. No fret! I used a program called Total Commander for Pocket PC's which does what it says, lets you totally command your phone, including editing the registry. Moving on, it allowed me to replace these unreplaceable files and now I have a kick-ass home page. You know you wish you were as cool as me.

Well folks, I need to unpack and get something to eat. Just wanted to throw a quick update up here and say "hey!"

Oh, and why don't you bastards comment sometime? Yeah, I'd freakin' appreciate it! Punks...

My supervisor just found Total Commander the other day.

He has Microsoft Voice Command on his phone, but it won't work over the Bluetooth headset. I did some snooping and found a registry hack that enables it over the headset - essentially replacing the SDDialer program that runs in the background.

He did the registry hack, and it worked, but it wasn't quite as accurate as he would like so he ended up switching it back.

Funny how you were doing some hacking, and I was doing some (research on) hacking.

dude what's the hack to get that to work? I have and use voice command too. I think the problem is that bluetooth only transmits a certain bitrate and that's why he might be having problems with it.

You're pretty much spot on. VC works at 16kHz, while your BTh works at 8kHz. The geniuses at MS decided when they were first developing VC that they didn't know how long BTh would be around, so they decided to make it work at a higher level of accuracy using 16kHz.

I'll find you the link for the hack.

Once you apply it though, when you push the button on your headset, it activates VC, the problem is that when you're done using VC you can either push the button again, to close the connection, or leave it open and pretty much all the sounds get routed to your BTh headset.

Then the next time you use VC after that, you have to push the button twice, once to close it and then again to reopen.

I'll do some digging and get back atcha.

Apparently it's a bit different to do on your xv6700, my boss has a HTC 8125 (cingular), so the results may be different for you, meaning the connection may close itself and whatnot, but here's a link specific to your model phone:

clicky

Crap, I forgot to mention this:

The instructions there have the path going to "...\VoiceCMD.exe" but my boss had to put "...\voicecmd.exe" all lowercase for his to work, so if it doesn't work, then that may be an issue.

It was either an issue with case sensitivity, or having the sddaemon program running. You may also have to remove the sddaemon.lnk from your startup folder (if you have that program)

Like I said, his is a HTC 8125 from Cingular, so maybe you'll get better results.

You know.. I got so bogged down into all the other features my phone provides, I just realized that it doesn't do the basic fundamental thing a phone is supposed to do -- like Brian's... I am a sucker. Dammit. Oh well, in the morning I'm going to use my non-phone phone to direct me to a movie theater via the GPS program installed so that I can watch 300! SUCKA'S!

did you get the hack done so you can use the voice command over bluetooth?

Posted by: geoffrey at March 11, 2007 11:35 AM

I haven't yet... I will though. Just haven't had a chance to look at everything and familiarize myself with it so that I don't screw my phone up. I'll let you know if I'm successful or not though. :-)
